API integration services

Connect the systems your business already uses, reduce repeated data entry and keep operational information accurate.

I can deliver a defined integration, join an existing development team or take a connection from discovery through to ongoing support.

Connect existing systems

Link ecommerce, CRM, finance, fulfilment, booking and internal software so useful information arrives where it is needed.

  • Third-party REST APIs and webhooks
  • Scheduled and event-driven data synchronisation
  • CSV, XML and legacy data exchange where no modern API exists

Reduce repeated entry and keep operational data consistent.

Custom API development

Build a secure REST API when your own application, partners or customer interfaces need structured access to data and actions.

  • Clear endpoints, authentication and permissions
  • Validation, versioning and useful documentation
  • Laravel, PHP and WordPress API development

Reliable operation & support

An integration has to cope with bad data, timeouts, rate limits and changes in the systems around it—not only the successful demonstration.

  • Retries and safeguards against duplicate records
  • Logs, monitoring and visible failure handling
  • Handover or ongoing development as services change

Typical API integration projects

The most useful integration work starts with a specific handover or bottleneck in the way your team works.

Ecommerce operations

Keep products, stock, prices, orders and fulfilment information moving between the store and the systems behind it.

Reporting & imports

Turn scheduled CSV or XML handovers into validated imports, operational dashboards and timely reports.

Customer & operational data

Connect CRM, booking, finance and internal tools so people work from dependable information.

New APIs

Give your application, partners or customer interfaces a secure, documented route to the data and actions they need.

API development in practice

RFE/RL

REST API for a journalist publishing toolkit

I built the Node.js backend for a platform used by journalists at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia to create and manage interactive publishing tools.

  • REST endpoints implemented as Azure Functions
  • Azure AD authentication, permissions and request validation
  • Cosmos DB persistence with a maintained RAML API specification

The EV Network

Imports and data processing for an EV charging network

Commissioned by Scend Studio, I developed Hyperlog for The EV Network, bringing charging-session data, site information and delivery pipelines into operational dashboards, maps and reports.

  • Smartsheet API integration for operational project data
  • Queued CSV imports with validation, upserts and stale-record handling
  • Background calculations and Mapbox geocoding for reporting and maps

API integration FAQs

What types of API and software integration do you build?

I connect existing websites, applications and business systems using third-party APIs, webhooks, scheduled synchronisation and custom connectors. This can include payment providers, CRMs, email services, booking tools, ecommerce data and internal operational software.

Where no suitable API exists, I can build a controlled import, file exchange or other data integration around the real business workflow.

Can you integrate a legacy system that does not have a REST API?

Often, yes. I have worked with SOAP and XML services as well as modern REST and JSON APIs. Where there is no usable API, a dependable connection may use scheduled CSV or XML files, secure file transfer, controlled database access or a purpose-built import and export process.

I assess the security, reliability and ownership of the available route before recommending it. Sometimes a well-tested scheduled import is safer and easier to support than forcing an old system into real-time integration.

Do we need a custom API integration or an off-the-shelf connector?

An existing connector or automation service can be the right choice for a simple, standard workflow between widely used products. I will not recommend custom development where a supported tool already meets the requirement reliably.

A bespoke integration becomes more useful when the workflow contains important business rules, unusual data, higher volumes, several systems or failure handling that a generic connector cannot provide. It also gives you greater control over testing, logs and future changes.

What is the difference between API integration and API development?

API integration connects your software to an interface that already exists, allowing systems to exchange data or trigger actions. API development creates a new interface so your own application, partners or customer-facing products can access selected data and functionality.

A project can require both. I can build a secure REST API and then connect the website, application or partner system that consumes it. This can include data and endpoint design, authentication, permissions, validation, versioning, automated tests and documentation using Laravel, PHP, WordPress or Node.js where appropriate.

How much does an API integration cost, and how long does it take?

Cost and timescale depend on the number of systems, the quality of their APIs, the data volume and direction, the business rules, and the testing and failure handling required. A focused connection between two well-documented systems is very different from a multi-system synchronisation involving legacy data.

Send me the systems involved, the workflow you want to improve and any available API documentation. I can identify the main unknowns and, where appropriate, provide a written scope covering deliverables, assumptions, testing, rollout and an estimate. A short paid discovery is useful when access or documentation needs investigation first.

How do you keep API integrations secure and reliable?

I use the authentication method supported by each service, keep credentials out of the codebase, restrict permissions where possible and validate data at the boundary. The precise controls depend on the information involved and the systems that process it.

Reliability is designed into the workflow through safe retries, rate-limit handling, stable identifiers, duplicate prevention, useful logs and alerts for failures that need attention. Tests cover successful requests as well as invalid data, unavailable services and partial processing.

Can you work with our agency or in-house development team?

Yes. I can own a defined API or integration, provide the backend while another developer builds the interface, or join the team responsible for the surrounding product. We agree the data contract, environments, testing responsibilities and release process so ownership is clear.

I document the integration and can hand it over to your developers once it is running. I am also comfortable working as a subcontractor where the end client relationship belongs to an agency.

Can you take over, fix or maintain an existing API integration?

Yes. I can investigate an integration that is unreliable, undocumented or no longer compatible with a provider. The first step is to review the code, logs, credentials, API documentation and recent failures so I can distinguish a contained repair from a wider redesign.

Ongoing API support can cover monitoring, failed jobs, authentication changes, new API versions and extensions to the data being exchanged. We can agree ownership, documentation and response expectations whether your team will maintain the code or you want me to remain involved.

Have an API integration project in mind?

Tell me which systems need to connect, what data should move and where the current process causes problems. API documentation is useful, but you do not need a technical brief.
